The Cabana
Thursday 30th November, 8pm
Australian comedian and storyteller Jon Bennett (Pretending Things are a Cock, My
Dad’s Deaths) has landed in New Zealand and is touring his insane and incredible
Fire in the Meth Lab around the country. Jon is a multi-award winning performer and
a powerhouse of guts and gusto. His stories are meaningful, bizarre, hilarious and true
– Fire in the Meth Lab is no exception.
“Bennett has an uncanny and unnerving ability to make you crease up with
laughter before dropping a perfectly timed bombshell. ★★★★” – Time Out
(UK)
The show is a shocking and chaotic tale about Bennett’s brother, told with both
charismatic hilarity and heart-warming, poignant reflection. It’s a story of drug
dealers, bikers, high-speed car chases, fights, crime, prison, vomit, exploding houses,
and even cancer. It sounds outrageous but also explores brotherly relationships and
how siblings with the same upbringing can choose very separate paths.
Fire in the Meth Lab has had sold out seasons at both Orlando Fringe and Brisbane
Comedy Festival and has garnered the following awards:
**Best Performance Winner (Victoria Fringe, 2016)
**Sell Out Show Award Winner (Orlando Fringe, 2014)
**Audience Best in Venue Fringe Award Winner (Orlando Fringe, 2014)
**Just for Laughs Award nomination for Best Comedy (Montreal Fringe, 2014)
**Pick of the Fringe Runner up (Victoria Fringe, 2016)
**Favorite Comedy Runner up (Victoria Fringe, 2016)
**Favorite Spoken Word/Storytelling Runner up (Victoria Fringe, 2016)
**Favorite Solo Show Runner up (Victoria Fringe, 2016)
**Best Comedy Award Nominee (Perth Fringe World, 2014)
New Zealand comedian Rhian Wood-Hill is joining Jon on the road following the
success of his nation-wide tour of How I Met My Father. Wood-Hill has some tall
tales to tell about his time as a professional poker player – but he isn’t bluffing.
“Rhian’s unpretentiously direct approach to relating his personal tale is
immediately engaging” –Theatreview
Needless to say, the whole night is going to be wild.
